I played Football for the first time in 3 years today

It was the first weekly kickabout that a few guys from work do that I've been to.

I was shit. Really, really shit. But I actually enjoyed myself.

It's a funny mix of mild elation when you stop someone scoring or do a good cross and downright embarrasment when a ball is coming towards you along the floor on trying to stop it you let it slip under your foot to an attacker.

Like I say. I was shit. But I guess I can only improve! *

(* Bloody hell this sun is putting me in a good mood! That and the phonecall I had today to say I'm one of the few selected for the second shopping trip... woooh!)

Great Weekend

It's been a long time since I've had a great weekend. I'm not really sure what it is about the sun, but I suffer from S.A.D (thought i'd put the fullstops in... I know what you were thinking :-) ) in a major way.

Therefore:
   Winter = Bad
   Summer = Great

It's fair to say this weekend (especially Saturday) was the first that we've seen that's shown true "like summer" weather. Beaautiful. That coupled with a good show on Saturday afternoon and a pretty successful shopping trip in Colchester prior to that, meant it was aceness.

I did spend the evening just watching DVDs in my house, but that's what happens when everyone you know's busy. Hey, I had the window open ;-)

Disposal of William

I need to get this message across clearly, so I'll use... hmm... I know what'll catch your eye... big red bold text :-)

GO AND SEE KILL BILL VOLUME 2

I've just come back from seeing it with Lev. Not gonna say anything aside from the above. And if you didn't get the message last time:

GO AND SEE KILL BILL VOLUME 2

That is all.

Happy Birthday Chanmander!

It's Chanmander's birthday today. I actually remembered. Happy Birthday Chanmander!

(Yes, that really is all *)

(* Aside from this: I hope the interview went well Tal! **)

(** And this: Please get me a job at the Beeb :-) )

Souls are like boomerangs

Well, just when I think that my soul's left my life for good (I bought my parents a PC at PC World on Friday), I finally managed to grab hold of it (albeit with a fairly weak grip) today by going to play.com and buying this.

It's already been posted. I'm more excited than I should be.

YAY!

On April 1st, after a day of sitting on the aloud.com website, staring at either a white screen, a "connection timed out" message or a "Sorry, this server is currently unavailable" message, I heard the news that the tickets for Glastonbury 2004 had sold out.

I was most peeved as many of my mates were going and there were a couple of us who couldn't get through.

HOWEVER...

Mr Paul Hammond informed me this afternoon that there may be some tickets available again... and within 10 minutes I'd gone to the site, clicked on "order" and recieved the confirmation email.

So now: we're all going.

Dan the Fox says: That's Great!

You're so right Dan The Fox, you're so right. *

* This was a strange and not entirely explainable "joke" between myself and Pauly G surrounding having my mate Dan Page as Tails the Fox, which lead to me making a very poor "mock up" of what that would look like (for mine and Pauly's amusement). I found it today in /badgers and found it too funny to not include in a post. Well Pauly will find it funny anyway!!

Pat's Soul has Now Left the Building...
  • I once bought Windows 98.
  • I recently bought a Microsoft Keyboard and Mouse.
  • This lunchtime I went into Argos and bought a Gamecube with Super Mario Sunshine and Mario Kart Doubledash on it.
For what it's worth, the feeling of excitement that I've had for the past few hours playing on the Gamecube has all but iradicated the strange hollow feeling that now, after buying Microsoft products and leaving my childhood friend Sega behind, my soul has left the building, tattered blue spikes and red sneakers in hand.

Hell, at least I didn't by it from PC World...

:-)

Shaun of the Dead

I saw Shaun of the Dead on Friday.

"A romantic comedy. With Zombies" is how the film's tag line describes it.

"Spaced... with Zombies" is how one reviewer on imdb.com describes it and I'd have to agree with that one.

Spaced is the sort of series that you either find really funny or find rubbish. As you are most probably aware, I found Spaced really funny - hence Shaun of the Dead is great imho!

Lots of excellent (Spaced-style) camerawork, music, dialogue, slap-stick moments and, of course, zombies.

Didn't really have much in the way of a plot but that's really my only niggle with it... aside from that I'd say it's an excellent film - oh, and watch out for Spaced's Dwayne, Marsha, Daisy and Tyres... plus Tim from the Office and Matt Lucas.

In summary:

A good 8/10 movie. With Zombies.

I Heard The News Today, Oh Boy

There we go then. The final ever Early Breakfast complete and I do feel kinda sad... and rather damned tired.

I think it went pretty well this morning too, had a coupla phone calls, which was nice and also finished on The Beatles - A Day In The Life... complete with 30-odd second piano chord at the end - it really was an great little moment. *

It's 7:18 and I'm now at work, 3 Dream 107.7 coffees down and half a can of Diet Pepsi complete.

It's going to be a tough day.

* - I'll be putting up a copy of the show in /badgers at some point soon if you're bored and fancy pretending it's Thursday 8th April at a stupid time in the morning...

Last Early Breakfast Tomorrow

I'm not sure if I'm happy or sad!!!
- On one hand I'll have a s**t load more free time and not be knackered all the time
- On the other hand it appears no-one's replacing me... so after (many?) year(s?) of Early Breakfast, as done my Gary Mulligan before me and Tracy before that, it's finished.

I am, however, taking calls so if you're mental enough to be up between 4:30 and 6:00 tomorrow morning, then tune in and gis a ring (01245 259 107) or text (07781 48 1077) or email (studio@dream107.com)...

If you live around mid Essex, then 107.7FM's the frequency. If not, then http://www.dream107.com is the web site for listening in!

Oh and for what it's worth I didn't give in to the doughnuts. AND managed to get to the gym. W00T!

Temptation and Cravings

This dieting lark is hard - and it's only been a couple of days.

I swear this is the worst part of a diet: the first few days where you're effectively "detoxing" from the usual intake of fatty, sugary foods and lots of snacks. The pain barrier of dieting, if you like.

It takes a lot of will power to get through this point. Especially when your mate gets a job and celebrates with a Dominos Pizza. :-)

Still, that's done, I'm back on track now... and am currently resisting the ("Delicious" and "Tasty", as the packaging states *) 10 Jam Doughnuts that someone's put on my desk this morning.

If I can get through this morning without eating any of those I'll be happy that I'm back on track.

(* - Why bother writing that on some Doughnuts for God's sake? I mean, it's not as though someone's going to go "Oh dear, not doughnuts - they taste minging!" and then subconciously get pursuaded by the words "Delicious" and "Tasty" on the damned things, is it? Mind you, I guess it kinda worked at the Restuarant at the End of the Universe... but that was a little less subtle.)

Good News - Bad News

Good news: My housemate Pete (The Bowlesmeister) has got a job!!
Bad news: It's all the way over in West London
Good news: It's a top PR company, he's got a great position and they're interested in starting a radio station up!
Bad news: He's probably gonna have to move out :-(
Good news: We celebrated his new job last night...
Bad news: ...with a beer and a Dominos Pizza.

It was a special occassion, damnit ;-)

Monday, April 05, 2004 at 11:18 PM

I made it!

I didn't have a Domino's after all! Merely some Super Noodles and 3 slices of bread. And managed to turn down a bottle of beer.

I feel like the King of the World! But not in a "I'm about to die horribly through drowing in freezing water" way.

Well, that's the first day down... now only another *mufflessomenumberthatsoundsfartoohighafterjustoneday* days of dieting to go!

The Streets

I heard The Streets' new single "You're Fit But You Know It" for the 2nd time yesterday. In my humble opinion it is a high quality piece of work.

It does take a couple of listens to really start warming to it, as within the initial 20 seconds of listening my first thoughts were "oh God, Mike's lost it" but no - it's just an advancement on the rough-sounding production with dubious singing and timing all designed to create that unique The Streets sound.

Some people I've spoken to think it's below-Chas-And-Dave standard and, frankly, not worth using someone else's money to buy, however I belong to the camp of people who think it's pure genius.

I also stumbled across The Streets' Website. It doesn't work very well in Opera, but it does have the courtesy to tell you it might not ;-)

Lots of sneak previews of up-and-coming stuff on there, plus loadsa random facts / info about songs / the guy(s) behind The Streets and my favourite bit:

The Streets Don't Condone Music Piracy. No.

I'm buying the new album, without a doubt!

at 6:42 PM

Off to a good start

Today I've consumed:
  • One bowl of Thai Vegetable soup
  • One thick slice of bread
  • One mandarin
  • Two cups of tea (skinny milk)
  • Two Diet Pepsis.
I don't feel that hungry, either!

I've also been to the gym for the first time in about a month. You know that semi-sick feeling you get when you push your body further than it wants to go? I had that.

Fortunately I now have a warm buzzing feeling and am looking forward to that moment on waking up tomorrow morning where I stretch and all my muscles ache...

In the meantime, I could really do with a Domino's.

This Time I Mean It

I've started a proper diet. I'm going to lose two stone by the time I go to Edinburgh in August. I know I can do this because:
  1. I've now stopped Early Breakfast (see below) so will have time to go to the gym
  2. McDonalds have released a Quorn Burger to replace the Veggie Deluxe, and I don't like it
  3. I've just done: "Names" --> "Select" --> (D)(O)(M)(I)(N) --> "Search" --> "Details" --> "Options" --> (UP) --> "Erase" --> "Ok" on my Nokia 6310i.
Like I say: This Time I Mean It.

The End Of An Era...

...is perhaps a bit strong, however it's felt long enough for me that it merits having an "Era" attached to it.

I'm talking about Early Breakfast on Dream 107.7. I'm finishing doing it this Thursday (Friday's a Bank Holiday)... and as far as I know the show's not continuing with a new presenter.

It's a shame in many ways, but the one reason for doing this overrides them all: tiredness.

I spend pretty much all of my time either a) at Ford or b) at Dream doing Early Brekkie, and it's come to a head recently as I've just been so damned tired all the time that I've not been able to concentrate properly on either. One had to go and, well, I think we all know which one it was going to be!

Hey, I've still got Saturday afternoons... ;-)

Either way, if for some unknown reason you are awake on Thursday morning from 4:30 - 6:00am and you have listened to Early Brekkie before then please tune in and call in too!
